If you collect Formula 1 cards, there's one name that's becoming increasingly difficult to ignore in 2026:
Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
The young Italian Mercedes driver isn't simply living up to the hype. He's winning races, battling established stars and rapidly becoming one of the biggest names in the F1 card hobby.
So, who exactly is Kimi Antonelli? Why is he suddenly dominating both the racetrack and the sports card market?
And perhaps the biggest question for collectors:

Who Is Kimi Antonelli?
Born in Bologna, Italy, in 2006, Antonelli has racing in his blood.
His father, Marco, is a former racing driver, and Kimi began karting at just seven years old. Mercedes recognized his potential early and brought him into its Junior Programme in 2019.
The results came quickly.
Antonelli won 22 of 35 races while capturing both the Italian F4 and ADAC Formula 4 championships in 2022. He followed that by winning the Formula Regional European Championship in 2023 before continuing his rapid climb toward Formula 1.
Mercedes ultimately gave Antonelli one of the most intimidating assignments imaginable: stepping into the F1 seat vacated by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season.
A year later, we're beginning to understand why Mercedes believed in him.
2026 Kimi Is Different
Antonelli's rookie season showed flashes of tremendous potential.
But 2026 has been something else entirely.
Through the first 11 rounds, Antonelli has taken six victories and six pole positions and sits comfortably atop the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship.
At the Belgian Grand Prix in July, Antonelli fought back after losing the lead to Max Verstappen on the opening lap, reclaimed the position and eventually held off Charles Leclerc to capture his sixth victory of the season.
This isn't just a young driver benefiting from a fast Mercedes.
He's showing speed, racecraft, consistency and composure well beyond his age.
Why Is He So Fast?
One of the most interesting things about Antonelli is his aggressive driving style.
He attacks corner entry hard and appears extremely comfortable asking a lot from the front of the car. The characteristics of the 2026 Mercedes W17 seem to complement that approach particularly well.
But raw aggression alone doesn't win Formula 1 races.
What has really stood out is how quickly Antonelli appears to be combining that speed with tire management, race strategy and composure under pressure.
That's when a talented young driver starts becoming something much more interesting.
And Then There's the Card Market...
This is where things get really interesting for collectors.
Antonelli's first true Formula 1 rookie cards arrived across the 2025 Topps Formula 1 products, including Topps Chrome Formula 1.
Collectors can chase everything from affordable base rookies to Refractors, numbered parallels, Sapphire cards, image variations, autographs and ultra-high-end cards.
And demand has exploded alongside his performance on track.
One of the most dramatic examples came in June 2026, when a 2025 Topps Chrome F1 Kimi Antonelli Red Refractor Rookie Auto /5, graded PSA 10 with a PSA/DNA 10 autograph, reportedly sold through Goldin for $90,890.
That's serious money for a driver in only his second Formula 1 season.
Even far more accessible Kimi rookies have seen increased collector attention as his championship run has developed.
Why Collectors Are Chasing Kimi
There are several ingredients collectors tend to love:
Young superstar.
Check.
Mercedes driver.
Check.
Italian F1 phenom.
Check.
True rookie-year Topps Chrome cards.
Check.
Numbered parallels and rookie autos.
Check.
Already winning Grands Prix and fighting for a World Championship at 19.

But there's another factor that might matter even more:

Collectors aren't simply buying what Antonelli has already accomplished.

This is where Kimi gets particularly interesting.
Low-numbered Chrome and Sapphire rookie parallels combine the rookie designation with genuine scarcity.
A /199 and a /25 aren't the same card simply because they feature the same driver.
As Kimi's collector base grows, scarcity matters.
HOLD — Quality Rookie Autographs
True rookie-year autographs—especially numbered Chrome autos and premium releases—could become defining Kimi cards if his career continues on its current trajectory.
But prices already reflect enormous expectations.
Buy carefully.
FLIP — When Hype Outruns the Card
There's nothing wrong with taking profit.
When a driver wins, takes pole, wins a championship or produces an unforgettable moment, demand can spike quickly.
If an ordinary card suddenly sells for a price you wouldn't personally pay to buy it back, selling into that excitement can make sense.
Remember:
A profit isn't a profit until you take it.
The Biggest Risk
Collectors should remember something important.
We're talking about a 19-year-old driver.
Antonelli could become a World Champion.
He could become a multiple World Champion.
He could become one of the defining drivers of his generation.
But Formula 1 history is filled with incredibly talented drivers whose careers didn't follow the trajectory everyone expected.
That's why buying solely because a card's price is rising can be dangerous.
Know what you're buying.
Check recent sold prices.
Understand the print run.
Understand the parallel.
Know the difference between scarcity and hype.
And don't spend money you can't afford to have sitting in a card for years.
